Why the fancy names?

You may well wonder why pedigree cats have complicated names. There is a method to the madness. Registered names tell a lot about each cat. For example, our queen River:

Her official registered name is:
DiCaprio River Tam of PixelPerfect.

To decode that name, break it up into: DiCaprio River Tam of PixelPerfect.

Dicaprio (prefix) is the name of the breeder that produced her.
* All pedigree cats keep the prefix for life, whether they become pet cats, or breeding/show cats.

River Tam is her name.
* Even if the cat has an informal nickname, like River, this name is used for breeding and showing.

of PixelPerfect (suffix) shows that she is owned by PixelPerfect cattery.
* Names only include an of suffix if the word following of is a registered cattery.
